The Moment 03:15
It was summer in the city  Latte making stunner, looking so pretty  Working up till nine o'clock, nine o'clock  Another cup so we could talk, we could talk And you always said, it's beneath me  But paying the rent don't come easy Let's go down to Supercrawl, Supercrawl  With you I forget it all, get it all It seems to me we'll always be running up and down James Street You looked so unmistakably beautiful So how could this be a mistake at all Come on baby, run Come up and visit on occasion You can be busy, but I can be patient Maybe we could settle down, settle down Next time that I'm back in town, back in town It seems to me I'll always be running up and down James Street You looked so unmistakably beautiful So how could this be a mistake at all Come on baby, run And you tell me just the right thing to end the day With something to remind me of familiar place And even on the road I know we'll be okay But I can count on you to tell me anyway Come on baby, run You looked so unmistakably beautiful So how could this be a mistake at all Any doubts I had that we could be anything Couldn't last and now I know for sure Come on baby, run

Blackjack 03:57
I know you're having trouble not to show up late With little motivation to enjoy the day And though there's not a lot for me to change that way I'll make it all the better till home I know you're only doing this until the fall Sometimes in life you're gonna have to make those calls I'm sure you'll find a way to go appease the boss And make it all the better till home So don't stop, keep it up and moving Nothing in the world is gonna make you lose it And oh, I swear, it's not so bad Nobody knows what life to pick Oh, we're all just trying it to see what sticks But inside us all is a doubt, we're doing it wrong No nobody sees what you think we see When we close our eyes, it's infinity Yeah we're all messed up playing blackjack with our dreams With Ronnie walking by me in a suit and tie I know that man this wasn't how you saw your life But still I see you serving in the punch in line To take a little more to the home Oh I wish you'd stuck it out in Hedden Hall Sometimes you tend to hide before you give it all I'm happy that you found a voice to share with us And wish you only better to come So don't stop, keep it up and moving Nothing in the world is gonna make you lose it And oh, I swear, it's not so bad Nobody knows what life to pick Oh, we're all just trying it to see what sticks But inside us all is a doubt, we're doing it wrong No nobody sees what you think we see When we close our eyes, it's infinity Yeah we're all messed up playing blackjack with our dreams

The escarpment seems so pretty When the city falls asleep But you'll never find the time to Recognize it till you leave Hey the summer'd suit you when you didn't escape Well I'm sorry that you felt like that's the only way I hear that you've been nervous Yeah we're all a little nervous So drive a little faster On the wrong side of the road Come back from where you ran to You'll make it on your own You'll make it on your own Go make it on your own Hey you're beautiful I wanna know your name I've been looking for a someone to come up and say I've been lost since I met you I was lost, till I found you Hey I wanna take you to a place I know We can climb up to the water and enjoy the show So come on and lean closer Not too long, it might be over So drive a little faster On the wrong side of the road Come back from where you ran to You'll make it on your own You'll make it on your own Go make it on your own

Tell me your story, comin' up higher Out of the smoke and onto the wire Covered in matches sung by the choir Through the fire, I swim to you I'm trying to tell you I want to make you mine Out of the ashes, finally breathing Something inside to say that I'm dreaming We've only just come, but out you go leaving Through the dust, I look for you Cause I'm trying to tell you I want to make you mine And when you move like that, I want to make you mine When you groove like that, I want you make you mine You're lighting me up just to watch it all burn out, from the wax into the wick Cause when you move like that I want to make you mine

One Square 03:05
Hey now, you got the guts to say That the kids don't need everything they see, to make a Catcall to society With the small town token mentality, to take a  Walk, running out of room to breathe When the screen takes hours to the busy street, but maybe It's not about the kids these days Everyone's ignoring now from where they came, where they came, where they came, alright No we, we don't need a leader, we got One square, to stand for every one of us And I know, when everyone's a leader, we got One mind, we're looking for a conscience  Hey now, you talk the kind of walk Where the leaves keep fighting over where they fall, and make a Scene bigger than hysteria With a show time later as the seasons crawl, into a Walk, running out of time to dream No you can't put everything on MTV, it's maybe It's not about the kids these days Everyone's ignoring now from where we came, where we came, where we came, alright No we, we don't need a leader, we got One square, to stand for every one of us And I know, when everyone's a leader, we got One mind, we're looking for a conscience  One mind, we're looking for a conscience

Our time Like a suitcase set away  Always gone but here to stay But I had to say to you Darling hold on to who you love It's just not worth it to give it up I'll telling you baby, there's something more But you Didn't take it like I planned I didn't seem to have a chance As I heard him from your room Darling hold on to who you love It's just not worth it to give it up I'll telling you baby, there's something more This love's worth fighting for And I know you think I'm hooked on a ghost But you know you've got some tell left to show And we've come to realize that there's more, that's in store, cause you know This love's worth fighting for
7.
Oh I got you, I know I caught you messing around the other day When I confronted you, you fronted you had nothing to say So tell me why do you think you could be so mean Running around on me No I ain't gonna take it no more Now that the love is gone, tell me why should I keep holding on Now that the love is done, tell me why shouldn't I be moving on You played me for a fool but honey I've always been true to you Don't act so tender, pretending like you've ever been a man of your word And leave that ego out, I doubt that you could ever put another one first So tell me why do you think, I could never leave You throw out a line like you've got somewhere to be  No I ain't gonna take it no more Now that the love is gone, tell me why should I keep holding on Now that the love is done, tell me why shouldn't I be moving on You played me for a fool but honey I've always been true to you So tell me, what am I supposed to do Now that the love is gone, tell me why should I keep holding on Now that the love is done, tell me why shouldn't I be moving on You played me for a fool
8.
You know I told you what The only thing I saw Don't undo How it wasn't Don't act like you're lost for words When you talk about the way you live They told me in love and life You should know you only get what you give Slow words they can't be wrong But you just don't belong Come and go Holy roller Don't act like you're lost for words When you talk about the way you live They told me in love and life You should know you only get what you give

Joe Jackson 05:34
So were we born in the wrong year Or are we just romantics To think turning the record over Is more than just semantics And when in time did music notes Fall back behind the face To those who think Duran Duran Could never write that way Oh oh we're bigger than before But we're all a little lost trying to find the door And we hold out to get a little more For a two room double bed sleeping on the floor You used to race the streetlights To Sam the Record Man In line to pick up Some Girls And be the first of your friends And even you knew the coffee stain That happens now and then Came from showing her your favourite song That's hidden near the end Oh oh we're bigger than before But we're all a little lost trying to find the door And we hold out to get a little more For a two room double bed sleeping on the floor How could we ever not have seen the light When Joe Jackson called it out in '85 With music television owning the night That the single would be all we need Would it end the record industry

Cold Love 03:28
This may very well become the hardest thing I'd ever done To let you leave me while I wonder whether or not I've jumped the gun See we both always had our sides, although we'd leave them all the time And now despite you have it all, your bed has never seemed so small And we danced until the sunlight hit the shadows Like an arrow headed straight through my heart And we danced until the sunlight woke the windows And my dreams, they all came falling apart Bring me below And to the one that will be next Add your name onto the list On with the show Yeah you'll be one of a kind Like my thinking at the time And in my mind I look again, without your picture in my head In spite of everything I've seen, I still can't shake the you from me But after months of coffee cups, I still can't help comparing us With what has lead to recognize just what I've tried so hard to find But still we danced until the sunlight hit the shadows Like an arrow headed straight through my heart And we danced until the sunlight woke the windows And my dreams, they all came falling apart Bring me below And to the one that will be next Add your name onto the list On with the show Yeah you'll be one of a kind Like my thinking at the time And like my thinking at the time I need love, old love, cold love

about

Thank you for buying this record. It took three years to make, during which we got deported, almost broke up, ended relationships, started new ones, and pushed each other further than we thought we could. These songs represent three years of our life. Three years of failures and successes. Three years of what it means to be a Canadian band at the start of 2017. Three years of songs that we needed to write. This is our Modern Jukebox.

Thank You: Al Legault, Michael Chambers, Kathleen Farley and Maisonneuve Music for everything you do, our family and our friends who have always supported us, Robin Benedict, Jeff Plumbley, Kristen Prince, The Racanellis, Mark Underdown, Noah Mintz, Marc-Adam Soyka-Steinman, Brodie at The Casbah and anybody else who helped us get here.

about

Of Gentlemen & Cowards Hamilton, Ontario

Formed in 2010, the band has seen ups and downs, including an appearance on Late Night With David Letterman and an ill-fated cruise ship gig that both broke the band’s heart and yet transformed their sound into a more soulful one. Through it all, Of Gentlemen & Cowards persevered, and this young band’s brand of optimistic, well-crafted soulful rock is borne from its experiences, both good and bad. ... more
